Feeling special

Shane and I came into a little unexpected money a few weeks ago and decided that since almost every penny we earn is going to paying bills and minimizing debt that we would each get a quarter of the money and do WHATEVER we wanted with it. Now other than birthdays or Christmas, I haven't really had an opportunity like this since I worked full time so I thought about it for a few weeks. What did I need but didn't have? No I have everything I need, but what have I really wanted? Shane knew exactly what he wanted from the minute he suggested the idea (which makes me think he had this planned from the beginning) and ordered a rear bumper/tire carrier for his jeep. I used a little of my money here and there for guilty pleasure items like a fashion magazine and a few lattes out. I also ordered a pair of cute slouchy gray suede boots from Target, which I still need to scotchguard before the rain or snow starts. And as I was looking over my wish list I realized one thing that I absolutely wanted but no one could probably pick exactly the design I wanted, so I went for it. Here is a picture:
I got this necklace at thevintagepearl.com I got to pick the charm shapes I wanted, the way the names were printed, and even added an extra "s" one for either shannon, shane or sadler you decide. I just love it. It also came with a little pearl dangle, but I thought that was just too much going on so I took it off for now. Anyway that was my completely unnecessary, over the top outrageous purchase that makes me feel totally special.

Overnight Sourdough Cinnamon Rolls

I've been tweaking this overnight sourdough cinnamon roll recipe over the last few months and I think it's finally, exactly, the way I like it. We love this for slow weekend mornings, to take to family and friends, or for special holiday get togethers. It's also the same recipe I use when making them to sell locally. I've been keeping it under wraps for no reason in particular but it's just too good not to share.  I don't have a reliable kitchen scale so this recipe uses good old fashion cups and goes a lot by the feeling of the dough. It will get messy but don't be discouraged if it doesn't turn out just right the first time. No matter the flop, these cinnamon rolls will never disappoint taste wise.  The PDF printable can be found here or you can keep reading.  Overnight Sourdough Cinnamon Rolls  The night before you want to make rolls: 8 Tablespoons cold butter, shredded (a whole stick) 2 1/2 cups unbleached all-purpose or bread flour  1/2 cup sourdou...

Keeping up with the Sadlers

Lincoln favorite new past time, listen closely for "Dada"  Dylan had cowboy day at school and could dress up and meet "real cowboys". We live in a hick town and his school was having an assembly about the cowboy way , or having character. Yes, Lincoln's bib is purplish, but it says I Love my Sister so it's ok :)  Cute big boy outfit Auntie Jackie got Lincoln, while sticking out his tongue. I think it looks like a little pickle. Weird, another tongue shot, he does it a lot. While playing with a plush orange (like the fruit) it sort of landed like this and I thought it looked a little like a bikini top and snapped a pic. Hey you have to have fun with life right?

Best Friends by Force

We weren't necessarily planning on having two under two initially but now that we are almost two year into it and survived the newborn stage, I can say with confidence that it is possible and we are starting to see some benefits.  Lincoln, the two year old and my middle boy, wanted nothing to do with his baby brother Warner. He knew a baby was taking everyone's attention, including his beloved oldest brother. He admires and tries to be exactly like his older brother most of the time. Until recently the two youngest wouldn't even play together. Warner was too young to understand play. Lincoln was too busy to be bothered by a baby. When school started I was home alone with the two little boys for hours on end and they were forced to spend time digging in the sand box together, destroying each other's block fortresses, trading colds and playing tiger tag. Lincoln has been doing much more preschool with me and we always make sure to include Warner if he isn't napping...
