Far from Farmer Girl

This weekend we bought the usual groceries and now the usual chicken feed, and while we were at the store I bought a new weeding hoe for the garden. This year we are slowly buying tools we will need for the larger and more unforgiving property slowly as we don’t have a big chunk of change to spend willy-nilly like we did last year when we sold the house and were remodeling. Each little purchase has to be determined if it is going to be worth it to make our lives easier or more enjoyable rather than a spur of the moment “throw it in” kind of attitude. My 9 year old and I took a silly photo  shoot and he thought they turned out dope so I just have to share.

We also had the usual Ellensburg wind blowing so I’ve got some exceptional JLo hair going on in these photos as well.

Other than the plethora of tools Shane already had, some of the tools we have slowly added to our homestead in the recent year, or hope to add include:

Tractor with attachments
Extendable tree trimmer and saw
Muck boots (the boys currently have Bogs and they are great!)
Insulated and uninsulated work gloves
Garden hoe
Bulb planter
Row hoop
Two-wheeled wheelbarrow
Rake
Snow shovel
Trowels
Pointed shovel
New frost-free spigots
Galvanized garbage cans
Small animal carrier
Tin snips
Cordless electric drill
16’ adjustable ladder
Cordless leaf blower

And many many more. Having the right tool makes the job so much easier! Until then we will be making do and promise to keep trying new things.

Keeping up with the Sadlers

Lincoln favorite new past time, listen closely for "Dada"  Dylan had cowboy day at school and could dress up and meet "real cowboys". We live in a hick town and his school was having an assembly about the cowboy way , or having character. Yes, Lincoln's bib is purplish, but it says I Love my Sister so it's ok :)  Cute big boy outfit Auntie Jackie got Lincoln, while sticking out his tongue. I think it looks like a little pickle. Weird, another tongue shot, he does it a lot. While playing with a plush orange (like the fruit) it sort of landed like this and I thought it looked a little like a bikini top and snapped a pic. Hey you have to have fun with life right?

Overnight Sourdough Cinnamon Rolls

I've been tweaking this overnight sourdough cinnamon roll recipe over the last few months and I think it's finally, exactly, the way I like it. We love this for slow weekend mornings, to take to family and friends, or for special holiday get togethers. It's also the same recipe I use when making them to sell locally. I've been keeping it under wraps for no reason in particular but it's just too good not to share.  I don't have a reliable kitchen scale so this recipe uses good old fashion cups and goes a lot by the feeling of the dough. It will get messy but don't be discouraged if it doesn't turn out just right the first time. No matter the flop, these cinnamon rolls will never disappoint taste wise.  The PDF printable can be found here or you can keep reading.  Overnight Sourdough Cinnamon Rolls  The night before you want to make rolls: 8 Tablespoons cold butter, shredded (a whole stick) 2 1/2 cups unbleached all-purpose or bread flour  1/2 cup sourdou...

What the Happenings

Lincoln tried out Play-Doh for the first time a while ago. He really liked breaking it up into tiny pieces and trying to put it back in the container. And he didn't try to put it in his mouth too many times. As you can tell by the picture he got tired out from all the creativity pretty quickly so we'll try it again when he has a little more vigor for the squishy stuff. I think this picture is from our drive over to Richland a few weeks ago. We headed over there to visit Shane's grandma and the a bbq at his brothers house. The kids love pictures of themselves and Danielle took this picture of the both of them.  Waiting to get Shane's winter tires on the jeep, Lincoln had fun checking out the giant tires at Les Schwab. There was one big enough he could crawl into but he wasn't a fan of being shoved in there. He loves to climb and explore and get himself stuck, but only on his own accord. He does not like authority trying to tell him what to do (gee I wonder where ...
