Opportunities come and go

I had a great opportunity present its self last night at dinner. My mother-in-law Shirley works at the University in our town and mentioned that someone had asked her if she knew of anyone to work part-time as a secretary because they can't advertise the position yet because of hiring freezes or something. It would be a great opportunity for me (since it would be until 2 every day and the kids don't get home after 2:30) however I now have 3 kids and I just can't imagine not being here for them.

Since I've been a stay-at-home mom my life has completely changed. I was a devoted mom to Dylan when I was on my own before but now with 3 to nurture, care for, discipline and get to hang out with I am in total "mom mode." I'm still working towards finishing up school. I also have a commitment to MOPS as a leader and am helping in Dylan's classroom. I love being home to hear the drama of the day, to make nutritious (or delicious) snacks, to help with homework, to keep my house livably clean and to come up with dinners on a tight budget. Some days I get tired or feel unappreciated. Some days I get covered in spit-up and poop, have to clean up after a dog, and then hear complaints that I didn't make the best dinner. Some days I feel grumpy or that I'm not doing enough but then I remember all the greatness that is my life. I don't have a real job, but I have the most important job in the world.

After just having this beautiful baby and starting to just get into the swing of the school year I can honestly say that having a little extra money in my pocket wouldn't be worth it. I would enjoy having a little more adult time and a title with a little more respect. When the kids get a little older or we really can't make our budget work any more obviously I would help support the family, but for now I get to be here in my cozy house doing cheers with my kids every night. Another perfect job will come along when the time is right.

  1. I couldn't agree more. You're so awesome Shani. Being a mother (or parent) is the most demandanding, rewarding, and important job one will ever do. Families are so important and you're such a good example to me of that! Love you!

  2. I agree too. What a privilege to stay home with the kids and give them the mommy they need. Being a mom is the best call in life and you are doing a great job of it!

  3. Even if you don't always feel appreciated now your children will always remember that you were there for them. You are doing a great job!

Keeping up with the Sadlers

Lincoln favorite new past time, listen closely for "Dada"  Dylan had cowboy day at school and could dress up and meet "real cowboys". We live in a hick town and his school was having an assembly about the cowboy way , or having character. Yes, Lincoln's bib is purplish, but it says I Love my Sister so it's ok :)  Cute big boy outfit Auntie Jackie got Lincoln, while sticking out his tongue. I think it looks like a little pickle. Weird, another tongue shot, he does it a lot. While playing with a plush orange (like the fruit) it sort of landed like this and I thought it looked a little like a bikini top and snapped a pic. Hey you have to have fun with life right?

Soaking it all In

Because I have a bad habit of zoning out when the tv is on, I've turned it off and told myself it can't come on until a rerun of a show I wanted to see comes on at 11. I can't stay up late so I'm trying to watch shows that will rerun, which is most of them outside of the basic cable channels. So obviously instead of working on my homework about Intercultural Crossings in Indian Music while Lincoln is taking a nap, I'm on here updating you on the trivial matters of my day. A friend told me an interesting revelation the other day. "When you have a child that is an infant you are the most physically exhausted. When you have a child that is just entering school aged you are the most mentally exhausted. When you have a teenager you are the most emotionally exhausted." So the way I see it, since I have one in each category I'm basically the most exhausted I'm going to get and since I'm seeming to do ok, it's only going to get easier from here. Y...

New Moves

So I officially started feeling the baby moving around this week, Tuesday to be exact, and now I feel dancing all the time. It's pretty weird because it has been so long since I've housed a fetus and I know no one else can feel it from the outside, but it's really real. The picture I took on the left shows me holding a photo of a 17week baby to scale. It's hard to imagine something that big is fitting inside of me already :) We had the "Mom" talk today inside the Dollar Store. Danielle asked me if it was ok if she could call me Mom. She says I treat her the way a mom should treat her daughter and that made me so proud. I am so glad that even though we have our daily and weekly ups and downs that our family unit is really coming together.
