"Lanique" and Lucky to be Living the Good Life

We were out to dinner the other night with the boys and my dad, Kevin. Dylan busily colored the leprechaun coloring contest picture. After he was finished he showed it to me and said, "Doesn't it look lanique?" Lanique, what the heck is that? I finally realized that the hostess had told him to color the picture and make it look unique. ahh That makes sense now. His tye dye picture will hopefully win him a gift card, but to me lanique is worth more than that!
I am just so happy lately. I think I finally realized that while there are things that I want, I have so much more than I could need. I have a husband who loves me. Yes we have our day to day issues but we get along, we make decisions, we have a nice warm house and I get to stay home and enjoy it. I have a teenage daughter to impress upon and have real conversations with. I have an almost 6 year old who lets me cuddle him when I want, but can explain to me how trees grow on the tundra. I have a 7 month old baby that says dada freely but is waiting to say mama until just the right moment when I can't hardly stand it anymore. I am just lucky that I can enjoy what I have now before everyone is grown up and gone.

  1. These are the best times of your life, and it makes me happy and proud to see you enjoy them so much. You make me a proud Papa every day. (So do the other kids, btw).

  2. That is so sweet. And so true! How funny that you would post this today, as I was sort of having the same epiphany...though I don't have kids yet. We have so SO much to be thankful for and I know I forget that too often! =]

Keeping up with the Sadlers

Lincoln favorite new past time, listen closely for "Dada"  Dylan had cowboy day at school and could dress up and meet "real cowboys". We live in a hick town and his school was having an assembly about the cowboy way , or having character. Yes, Lincoln's bib is purplish, but it says I Love my Sister so it's ok :)  Cute big boy outfit Auntie Jackie got Lincoln, while sticking out his tongue. I think it looks like a little pickle. Weird, another tongue shot, he does it a lot. While playing with a plush orange (like the fruit) it sort of landed like this and I thought it looked a little like a bikini top and snapped a pic. Hey you have to have fun with life right?

Soaking it all In

Because I have a bad habit of zoning out when the tv is on, I've turned it off and told myself it can't come on until a rerun of a show I wanted to see comes on at 11. I can't stay up late so I'm trying to watch shows that will rerun, which is most of them outside of the basic cable channels. So obviously instead of working on my homework about Intercultural Crossings in Indian Music while Lincoln is taking a nap, I'm on here updating you on the trivial matters of my day. A friend told me an interesting revelation the other day. "When you have a child that is an infant you are the most physically exhausted. When you have a child that is just entering school aged you are the most mentally exhausted. When you have a teenager you are the most emotionally exhausted." So the way I see it, since I have one in each category I'm basically the most exhausted I'm going to get and since I'm seeming to do ok, it's only going to get easier from here. Y...

Overnight Sourdough Cinnamon Rolls

I've been tweaking this overnight sourdough cinnamon roll recipe over the last few months and I think it's finally, exactly, the way I like it. We love this for slow weekend mornings, to take to family and friends, or for special holiday get togethers. It's also the same recipe I use when making them to sell locally. I've been keeping it under wraps for no reason in particular but it's just too good not to share.  I don't have a reliable kitchen scale so this recipe uses good old fashion cups and goes a lot by the feeling of the dough. It will get messy but don't be discouraged if it doesn't turn out just right the first time. No matter the flop, these cinnamon rolls will never disappoint taste wise.  The PDF printable can be found here or you can keep reading.  Overnight Sourdough Cinnamon Rolls  The night before you want to make rolls: 8 Tablespoons cold butter, shredded (a whole stick) 2 1/2 cups unbleached all-purpose or bread flour  1/2 cup sourdou...
