December goes by so fast! When you were a kids you just couldn't wait for Christmas. Now I just feel so busy the days are flying by. I was wide awake for hours in the middle of the night the other day so what did I do? Make a list of all the things I need to do before Dylan gets out of school (like make those homemade crayon stocking stuffers I thought would be cute but really they aren't that great and just took an hour) and a list of things I would like to do before Christmas. Even today I'm done with my shopping but I'm still spending time online trying to look up what would be a good gift for Dylan's bus driver. Really is that necessary... no. Yes I want to show Tommy appreciation but no more money is leaving this mama's wallet. Plus I just want to enjoy being with my boys. I made a little Christmas countdown and planned some crafts for vacation and decided instead of getting caught in the hustle and bustle that I just want to make this month memorable. I saw this adorable hand made wreath that I might try to make with them soon but really I just want to do what they want to do. Shane is working all day (yesterday he left at 7:30am got home at 9:30pm and then left again at 6:30am) so it's me (and my unending cold) and the boys. I've been trying to get a few extra dinners in the freezer, presents wrapped at nap time and since we are actually having crisp (like 30 degrees) but clear weather we got out and played at recess at Dylan's school yesterday too. I can't completely avoid doing the mandatory Christmassy things and I don't want to, but I want to make sure the things I do are for a purpose. We are memorizing the short "It is more blesses to give than to receive" Luke 20:35. We are going to help with the school toy drive. We are looking forward to time spent with our family. It is the thought that counts as we count down to the day that little baby Jesus was born.
I've been tweaking this overnight sourdough cinnamon roll recipe over the last few months and I think it's finally, exactly, the way I like it. We love this for slow weekend mornings, to take to family and friends, or for special holiday get togethers. It's also the same recipe I use when making them to sell locally. I've been keeping it under wraps for no reason in particular but it's just too good not to share. I don't have a reliable kitchen scale so this recipe uses good old fashion cups and goes a lot by the feeling of the dough. It will get messy but don't be discouraged if it doesn't turn out just right the first time. No matter the flop, these cinnamon rolls will never disappoint taste wise.
