Embracing Our Unique Children

Here's the article I wrote for my monthly MOPS newsletter. If you are interested in reading the whole newsletter it and many other things can be found at the Ellensburg MOPS website.

"I have three boys. Three chances for perfect little carbon copies I can shape and mold any way I like. Except each child is unique and there is nothing I can do about it!
I have one child who saw all of his school pictures lines up from the last few years and said, “Oh it’s so cute, I almost want to cry!” I have one child that can sit and stare at a tv screen for hours (if I were to actually allow that sort of thing, right?) with his tongue hanging out but can’t stop running around long enough to color in a picture. I also have another child who loves carrying around different tools of sorts, a wooden spoon, a Swiffer or this week, screwdrivers, wherever he goes.
Each of my boys live in the same house, they even sleep in the same room, they eat the same food, they all share the same toys, but they are so different from each other. God has called each of our children to be uniquely themselves and we as mothers have to do our best to meet the needs of each individual child. What works with one kid won’t work with another so as a mom we have to keep evolving and trying to nurture our kids in whatever way is best for them. And sometimes we have to just let them take a nap with a screwdriver."

Overnight Sourdough Cinnamon Rolls

I've been tweaking this overnight sourdough cinnamon roll recipe over the last few months and I think it's finally, exactly, the way I like it. We love this for slow weekend mornings, to take to family and friends, or for special holiday get togethers. It's also the same recipe I use when making them to sell locally. I've been keeping it under wraps for no reason in particular but it's just too good not to share.  I don't have a reliable kitchen scale so this recipe uses good old fashion cups and goes a lot by the feeling of the dough. It will get messy but don't be discouraged if it doesn't turn out just right the first time. No matter the flop, these cinnamon rolls will never disappoint taste wise.  The PDF printable can be found here or you can keep reading.  Overnight Sourdough Cinnamon Rolls  The night before you want to make rolls: 8 Tablespoons cold butter, shredded (a whole stick) 2 1/2 cups unbleached all-purpose or bread flour  1/2 cup sourdou...

Keeping up with the Sadlers

Lincoln favorite new past time, listen closely for "Dada"  Dylan had cowboy day at school and could dress up and meet "real cowboys". We live in a hick town and his school was having an assembly about the cowboy way , or having character. Yes, Lincoln's bib is purplish, but it says I Love my Sister so it's ok :)  Cute big boy outfit Auntie Jackie got Lincoln, while sticking out his tongue. I think it looks like a little pickle. Weird, another tongue shot, he does it a lot. While playing with a plush orange (like the fruit) it sort of landed like this and I thought it looked a little like a bikini top and snapped a pic. Hey you have to have fun with life right?

Shopping Weekend

Danielle has Tolo coming up on Saturday the 16th and I am learning what a drag our little town of Ellensburg can be for finding a dress. Most of Saturday we spent looking at every single clothing store (ok there are only like 6 but still it took a while) then today we decided to try Yakima. Since it's over a 1/2 hour drive and the truck is definitely not gas friendly, Shane drove the Kia so we all went together. After 4 stores there we finally found her perfect dress. Cute cute, I'll have pictures for that next week but for now I have to take it in a little bit. They only had size medium and she is so tiny, but it shouldn't be too difficult with my handy sewing machine I got for Christmas. Dylan behaved like a gentleman and we even got to have a nice early dinner at Appleby's. The baby loves Caesar salads :) I also got to run into Old Navy and buy 2 brand new shirts and a perfect undershirt so I am excited. Almost all of my other maternity clothes so far are borrowed w...
