Impromptu Freezer Cooking

I love the idea of Once A Month Cooking, where you cook once (one day) and have meals for the entire month in your freezer. We have a deep freezer which we bought a few years back so we have the capability but I've never wanted to pony up that kind of money or time commitment. Plus I think it would be more fun to do with a friend anyway. I did some back when I was pregnant and trying to get ready for the baby but haven't planned and big hauls in a while. Today I got some motivation, which is hard for me to come by these days, and decided to do a little impromptu freezer cooking. So I grabbed some frozen meat and a few other things and went to town.   Utilizing multiple burners at once to save some electricity. Things were going smoothly but I realized it was taking quite a while to defrost the burger. Then little perfect Lincoln woke up from his nap right in the middle of everything so that slowed me down to half speed but I still got a lot done.  The makings of a big pi...

uh awkward!

Dylan does this funny thing and I'm not sure where he got it, but he has already developed the ability to know if he is an an awkward situation and will obviously state "Uh Awkward!" Great. Another smarty pants in the family. The other day I was clipping and filing my nails in the bathroom (yes a nail biter like me actually had nails to file, it's true!) Dylan looked into my drawer and saw some feminine products and asked "are those diapers?" No I replied "Oh, are they for your feet?" Ha ha no. Oh man. Uh awkward. Then he just really wanted to know what they were for. I'm not sure how much you should tell a 6 year old boy about all that kind of fun stuff.

Fishing and Dylan's newest BFF

Dylan caught his first ever fish this weekend. He hooked it, reeled it in, held it, (shane gutted it), (Shane's friend grilled it up) and Dylan ate all of it. Hard work never tasted so good. Dylan and some family friend at the lake. For the record, taking a 10.75 month old on a tiny aluminum boat with a life jacket cramping his style is not really a good idea for family fun. Luckily I popped him in his car seat and within minutes he was sleeping and I got to lay in the truck bed and relax in the sun while the boys kept fishing. It's weird how relaxing time can be when you aren't at home with chores to be done. Unfortunately Danielle couldn't come but she was working and raking in the big bucks.

Style - A Little Bit of Macro in My Life

For my final photography portfolio we had to choose to do 3-5 pictures in either a theme, a style, or using them to tell a story. Throughout the class I have learned a little bit about macro photography, where you get really close to your subject. Usually this refers to small things like plants and bugs but I decided to use my kiddos as models and here are the results, let me know what you think. Enjoying My Simple Pleasures

Dylan Danielle and Lincoln posing in front of the lilac bushes See they do get along sometimes :) Two of my favorite things in the last few weeks. The kids laughing together and the giant lilac bushes blooming. I love cutting them and putting them in vases all around the house. The flowers that is, not the kids.

Mean Mommy

So Lincoln and Dylan were playing "boat" the other day in my laundry basket and I wanted to grab a quick picture. Unfortunately Lincoln thought play time was over. I'm such a meanie for taking this picture, and posting it. Some day he'll thank me I'm sure.

Just Fishin

Well this Memorial Day we aren't planning on anything fancy, no camping with the trailer this time, but we are talking about going fishing with another family and having a BBQ. This song has been on the radio a lot lately and it reminds me that it's not what we do together, it's just doing it together. Remember this Memorial Day all of those who have served for us and to spend the time off with your family.
