Outsourcing

I'm working on training Dylan to be self sufficient so I can nap all day long, but so far we are only making baby steps. He made his peanut butter and jelly sandwich *almost* all by himself today and once last week too. I've already got him dressing himself (Although I wouldn't have chosen shorts for the sort of weather we are having lately) and we finally mastered him wiping himself. He has also told me that he needs to learn how to read so he can read to the baby when it gets here. I can't believe I am going to have a Kindergardener in the fall!
On a slightly unrelated note Shane's friend went into the doctors for a check up and the doctor recommend the Mediterranean Diet to help him loose weight, so Shane has decided that he is going to try it too. After realizing that it costs more to eat a certain way compared to my frugal American way of cooking, he made a trip to the store today. Keep your fingers crossed that he, probably all of us, can stick to it.

  1. The Mediterranean diet is the bestIits not really a fad diet....its a good way that you can eat for the rest of your life and maintain it. It includes a lot of healthy fats like olive oil, right? You can do it! But it definitely is not as cheap! lol

  2. Yeah I know it's not cheap... and when I said we were going to have fish tonight he was like what? I thought you would like that. Then I reminded him that fish was one of the basics of that diet too. we'll see :)

Keeping up with the Sadlers

Lincoln favorite new past time, listen closely for "Dada"  Dylan had cowboy day at school and could dress up and meet "real cowboys". We live in a hick town and his school was having an assembly about the cowboy way , or having character. Yes, Lincoln's bib is purplish, but it says I Love my Sister so it's ok :)  Cute big boy outfit Auntie Jackie got Lincoln, while sticking out his tongue. I think it looks like a little pickle. Weird, another tongue shot, he does it a lot. While playing with a plush orange (like the fruit) it sort of landed like this and I thought it looked a little like a bikini top and snapped a pic. Hey you have to have fun with life right?

Overnight Sourdough Cinnamon Rolls

I've been tweaking this overnight sourdough cinnamon roll recipe over the last few months and I think it's finally, exactly, the way I like it. We love this for slow weekend mornings, to take to family and friends, or for special holiday get togethers. It's also the same recipe I use when making them to sell locally. I've been keeping it under wraps for no reason in particular but it's just too good not to share.  I don't have a reliable kitchen scale so this recipe uses good old fashion cups and goes a lot by the feeling of the dough. It will get messy but don't be discouraged if it doesn't turn out just right the first time. No matter the flop, these cinnamon rolls will never disappoint taste wise.  The PDF printable can be found here or you can keep reading.  Overnight Sourdough Cinnamon Rolls  The night before you want to make rolls: 8 Tablespoons cold butter, shredded (a whole stick) 2 1/2 cups unbleached all-purpose or bread flour  1/2 cup sourdou...

What the Happenings

Lincoln tried out Play-Doh for the first time a while ago. He really liked breaking it up into tiny pieces and trying to put it back in the container. And he didn't try to put it in his mouth too many times. As you can tell by the picture he got tired out from all the creativity pretty quickly so we'll try it again when he has a little more vigor for the squishy stuff. I think this picture is from our drive over to Richland a few weeks ago. We headed over there to visit Shane's grandma and the a bbq at his brothers house. The kids love pictures of themselves and Danielle took this picture of the both of them.  Waiting to get Shane's winter tires on the jeep, Lincoln had fun checking out the giant tires at Les Schwab. There was one big enough he could crawl into but he wasn't a fan of being shoved in there. He loves to climb and explore and get himself stuck, but only on his own accord. He does not like authority trying to tell him what to do (gee I wonder where ...
