Woes of the Hunting Widow

I opened up the photo program on my computer and suddenly there were tons of pictures like this. Deer, elk, butts of dear or elk or whatever other wild animal is running around. The night vision shots. The shots of random people walking by...
It's that time of year again when my man packs up and goes off hunting with his buddies. The women left behind have come up with the term "hunting widow" and I agree. It's not so much the week (this year only a 4 day weekend and a 2 day trip) that he is in the mountains but it's the weeks leading up to it. The trips to go up and salt and put up the trail camera, the scouting day trips, the day to go set up camp the weekend before, the new equipment needed, the shopping trip to get food, etc etc etc. It is a long process and he doesn't even go as often as other people. It is definitely not my cup of tea but I guess I have gotten used to cooking with wild game so there is one benefit I see. If all the kids weren't sick I don't think it would be as hard to deal with this weekend either. It used to be fun to have a week to have the house to myself but now with all these kids I just feel like I am a bummer about it. I want him to be here with me, whah!

ok pout over.

Keeping up with the Sadlers

Lincoln favorite new past time, listen closely for "Dada"  Dylan had cowboy day at school and could dress up and meet "real cowboys". We live in a hick town and his school was having an assembly about the cowboy way , or having character. Yes, Lincoln's bib is purplish, but it says I Love my Sister so it's ok :)  Cute big boy outfit Auntie Jackie got Lincoln, while sticking out his tongue. I think it looks like a little pickle. Weird, another tongue shot, he does it a lot. While playing with a plush orange (like the fruit) it sort of landed like this and I thought it looked a little like a bikini top and snapped a pic. Hey you have to have fun with life right?

Overnight Sourdough Cinnamon Rolls

I've been tweaking this overnight sourdough cinnamon roll recipe over the last few months and I think it's finally, exactly, the way I like it. We love this for slow weekend mornings, to take to family and friends, or for special holiday get togethers. It's also the same recipe I use when making them to sell locally. I've been keeping it under wraps for no reason in particular but it's just too good not to share.  I don't have a reliable kitchen scale so this recipe uses good old fashion cups and goes a lot by the feeling of the dough. It will get messy but don't be discouraged if it doesn't turn out just right the first time. No matter the flop, these cinnamon rolls will never disappoint taste wise.  The PDF printable can be found here or you can keep reading.  Overnight Sourdough Cinnamon Rolls  The night before you want to make rolls: 8 Tablespoons cold butter, shredded (a whole stick) 2 1/2 cups unbleached all-purpose or bread flour  1/2 cup sourdou...

What the Happenings

Lincoln tried out Play-Doh for the first time a while ago. He really liked breaking it up into tiny pieces and trying to put it back in the container. And he didn't try to put it in his mouth too many times. As you can tell by the picture he got tired out from all the creativity pretty quickly so we'll try it again when he has a little more vigor for the squishy stuff. I think this picture is from our drive over to Richland a few weeks ago. We headed over there to visit Shane's grandma and the a bbq at his brothers house. The kids love pictures of themselves and Danielle took this picture of the both of them.  Waiting to get Shane's winter tires on the jeep, Lincoln had fun checking out the giant tires at Les Schwab. There was one big enough he could crawl into but he wasn't a fan of being shoved in there. He loves to climb and explore and get himself stuck, but only on his own accord. He does not like authority trying to tell him what to do (gee I wonder where ...
