Grocery Groove 2.5 example

Shane's diet has been going great, plus he is working out and doing stuff in the yard, he has lost about 20 pounds already! We decided together that since both of us could still loose some more (yes yes baby weight should take 9 months but I'm still ready to get rid of those 10lbs left!) that we really need to make a small adjustment in the way we are eating. Hot pockets out, more fruits and veggies in.
Saturday morning I took my two youngest boys, and the dog, to the farmers market. We had a great time walking around and checking everything out and even got some information on a CSA (oh that would be so fun to join but it would be the money up front part that I don't think I could talk Shane into). Lincoln acted like such a big boy but I could tell that he was getting sweaty just being outside for half an hour. This week is supposed to be a scorcher so we went over to the inlaws to cool off and feed the baby. For $15 here's what we got:
5# Apples - I see crock pot applesauce in my future.
20 Apricots - Ok I see apricot applesauce in my future.
Small container of Bing Cherries, half eaten by Lincoln and myself.
Swiss chard
Turnips - I mashed them in with potatoes to go along side bbq'd steak, first time tried and yummy
A bunch of garlic scapes and a recipe for garlic scape pesto which I will post soon

After everyone cooled down I headed to Fred Meyer while they watched Lincoln. Grocery shopping with only one small baby is so much more... uh... relaxing. I was able to find a bunch of items on clearance and buy some healthier foods to stock the pantry. I don't planning on going back to the store too often the rest of the month because we are going to have some crazy summer plans coming up. For $54.02 here's what I got:
2 bags of Dole Salad marked down to 1.49 each, had a buy two get $1.50 off - $1.48
Kraft Fresh Take $2.99, used e-coupon and $1 off when you buy two salads - $1.24

Keeping up with the Sadlers

Lincoln favorite new past time, listen closely for "Dada"  Dylan had cowboy day at school and could dress up and meet "real cowboys". We live in a hick town and his school was having an assembly about the cowboy way , or having character. Yes, Lincoln's bib is purplish, but it says I Love my Sister so it's ok :)  Cute big boy outfit Auntie Jackie got Lincoln, while sticking out his tongue. I think it looks like a little pickle. Weird, another tongue shot, he does it a lot. While playing with a plush orange (like the fruit) it sort of landed like this and I thought it looked a little like a bikini top and snapped a pic. Hey you have to have fun with life right?

Overnight Sourdough Cinnamon Rolls

I've been tweaking this overnight sourdough cinnamon roll recipe over the last few months and I think it's finally, exactly, the way I like it. We love this for slow weekend mornings, to take to family and friends, or for special holiday get togethers. It's also the same recipe I use when making them to sell locally. I've been keeping it under wraps for no reason in particular but it's just too good not to share.  I don't have a reliable kitchen scale so this recipe uses good old fashion cups and goes a lot by the feeling of the dough. It will get messy but don't be discouraged if it doesn't turn out just right the first time. No matter the flop, these cinnamon rolls will never disappoint taste wise.  The PDF printable can be found here or you can keep reading.  Overnight Sourdough Cinnamon Rolls  The night before you want to make rolls: 8 Tablespoons cold butter, shredded (a whole stick) 2 1/2 cups unbleached all-purpose or bread flour  1/2 cup sourdou...

What the Happenings

Lincoln tried out Play-Doh for the first time a while ago. He really liked breaking it up into tiny pieces and trying to put it back in the container. And he didn't try to put it in his mouth too many times. As you can tell by the picture he got tired out from all the creativity pretty quickly so we'll try it again when he has a little more vigor for the squishy stuff. I think this picture is from our drive over to Richland a few weeks ago. We headed over there to visit Shane's grandma and the a bbq at his brothers house. The kids love pictures of themselves and Danielle took this picture of the both of them.  Waiting to get Shane's winter tires on the jeep, Lincoln had fun checking out the giant tires at Les Schwab. There was one big enough he could crawl into but he wasn't a fan of being shoved in there. He loves to climb and explore and get himself stuck, but only on his own accord. He does not like authority trying to tell him what to do (gee I wonder where ...
