Preschool at Home

So I've decided to start Lincoln doing preschool at home. He's not going to be sitting at a desk for hours or filling out work sheets, but we are going to have a little more structure in his day and start working on some preschool type activities, mainly because he wants to. He can count up to eleven, sort of. Most of the time he skips 9. I don't think he knows how to count but he can repeat the sequence up to there, and he likes to say 14 a lot too. He is also starting to show interest in how books work, learning how to use items for their intended purpose (a spatula to flip food, blocks to stack, cars to drive, etc) and doing different stations so I decided that I might as well make learning intentional. He is a completely different personality than Dylan so my teaching ideas will have to be shifted around from what worked with him. Lincoln is a mover. He is high energy and into attention grabbing, hands on lessons. Here are some of the stations and ideas that we've started working on.

Construction Tub - Fish tank gravel and construction vehicles

Flour Sand Tub - He likes to pour and scoop

Pom pom stuffing in a wipe tub.

Water Beads - These are so cool to play with but unfortunately not as hardy as I thought and Lincoln like to squish them. We'll see how long they hold up.

He is just so darn cute when he is actually sitting still, which doesn't happen that often. He definitely wears me out (and wears me down when he says No! more than any other word and tries to avoid sleeping at all costs) but he is also so loving and sweet. My little Linkster.

Keeping up with the Sadlers

Lincoln favorite new past time, listen closely for "Dada"  Dylan had cowboy day at school and could dress up and meet "real cowboys". We live in a hick town and his school was having an assembly about the cowboy way , or having character. Yes, Lincoln's bib is purplish, but it says I Love my Sister so it's ok :)  Cute big boy outfit Auntie Jackie got Lincoln, while sticking out his tongue. I think it looks like a little pickle. Weird, another tongue shot, he does it a lot. While playing with a plush orange (like the fruit) it sort of landed like this and I thought it looked a little like a bikini top and snapped a pic. Hey you have to have fun with life right?

Soaking it all In

Because I have a bad habit of zoning out when the tv is on, I've turned it off and told myself it can't come on until a rerun of a show I wanted to see comes on at 11. I can't stay up late so I'm trying to watch shows that will rerun, which is most of them outside of the basic cable channels. So obviously instead of working on my homework about Intercultural Crossings in Indian Music while Lincoln is taking a nap, I'm on here updating you on the trivial matters of my day. A friend told me an interesting revelation the other day. "When you have a child that is an infant you are the most physically exhausted. When you have a child that is just entering school aged you are the most mentally exhausted. When you have a teenager you are the most emotionally exhausted." So the way I see it, since I have one in each category I'm basically the most exhausted I'm going to get and since I'm seeming to do ok, it's only going to get easier from here. Y...

New Moves

So I officially started feeling the baby moving around this week, Tuesday to be exact, and now I feel dancing all the time. It's pretty weird because it has been so long since I've housed a fetus and I know no one else can feel it from the outside, but it's really real. The picture I took on the left shows me holding a photo of a 17week baby to scale. It's hard to imagine something that big is fitting inside of me already :) We had the "Mom" talk today inside the Dollar Store. Danielle asked me if it was ok if she could call me Mom. She says I treat her the way a mom should treat her daughter and that made me so proud. I am so glad that even though we have our daily and weekly ups and downs that our family unit is really coming together.
