Out of the Mouthes of Babes

After asking if I was alive in the "wild west days with cowboys and indians" Dylan made up for it. I told him our favorite tv show was on and he replies "Extreme Couponers?" The he says "I'm going to be an extreme couponer when I grow up, are you?" Oh man he cracks me up.

Yes I've been trying to get some good deals lately and some of the deal sites I follow show pictures of what they got and how much they paid and I always think it's pretty cool. Here are three of the last times I went to the grocery store and what I got. Weird yes, it makes me a little bit happy to know I am saving money.

5/31/11 - This was actually two different transactions because when you buy specific items totaling over an amount you get a $10 catalina off of your next purchase. Anyway the two together retail at $78.40 and I paid $44.12!
This included coffee, 2 creamers (our major vice!) 3 sunblocks and allergy medicine.
6/5/11 - Retail value $57.35, Paid $34.30

I think there may have been a shopping trip in here too for about $15.

6/11/11 Retail Price $31.36, Paid $20.32

Ok and I didn't take a picture of this one because it was the first shopping trip I did with all three kids since they got out for summer vacation so I was a little frazzled after but this one included a big bag of dog food (which we tried the next step up from the cheapo brand since it seems like Liko is having skin issues) 4 bags of gold fish crackers, 8 yogurts, pop and toilet paper. Retail Price $45.17, Paid $38.31

6/18/11 - Retail Price $7.98, Paid $5.73
So doing the math that is $157.78 (plus $6.99 for a pizza I promised the kids to celebrate summer Friday night) to feed a family of 5 (and two dogs and cat) for about a month plus more. I think it's a cool deal.

Keeping up with the Sadlers

Lincoln favorite new past time, listen closely for "Dada"  Dylan had cowboy day at school and could dress up and meet "real cowboys". We live in a hick town and his school was having an assembly about the cowboy way , or having character. Yes, Lincoln's bib is purplish, but it says I Love my Sister so it's ok :)  Cute big boy outfit Auntie Jackie got Lincoln, while sticking out his tongue. I think it looks like a little pickle. Weird, another tongue shot, he does it a lot. While playing with a plush orange (like the fruit) it sort of landed like this and I thought it looked a little like a bikini top and snapped a pic. Hey you have to have fun with life right?

Overnight Sourdough Cinnamon Rolls

I've been tweaking this overnight sourdough cinnamon roll recipe over the last few months and I think it's finally, exactly, the way I like it. We love this for slow weekend mornings, to take to family and friends, or for special holiday get togethers. It's also the same recipe I use when making them to sell locally. I've been keeping it under wraps for no reason in particular but it's just too good not to share.  I don't have a reliable kitchen scale so this recipe uses good old fashion cups and goes a lot by the feeling of the dough. It will get messy but don't be discouraged if it doesn't turn out just right the first time. No matter the flop, these cinnamon rolls will never disappoint taste wise.  The PDF printable can be found here or you can keep reading.  Overnight Sourdough Cinnamon Rolls  The night before you want to make rolls: 8 Tablespoons cold butter, shredded (a whole stick) 2 1/2 cups unbleached all-purpose or bread flour  1/2 cup sourdou...

What the Happenings

Lincoln tried out Play-Doh for the first time a while ago. He really liked breaking it up into tiny pieces and trying to put it back in the container. And he didn't try to put it in his mouth too many times. As you can tell by the picture he got tired out from all the creativity pretty quickly so we'll try it again when he has a little more vigor for the squishy stuff. I think this picture is from our drive over to Richland a few weeks ago. We headed over there to visit Shane's grandma and the a bbq at his brothers house. The kids love pictures of themselves and Danielle took this picture of the both of them.  Waiting to get Shane's winter tires on the jeep, Lincoln had fun checking out the giant tires at Les Schwab. There was one big enough he could crawl into but he wasn't a fan of being shoved in there. He loves to climb and explore and get himself stuck, but only on his own accord. He does not like authority trying to tell him what to do (gee I wonder where ...
