Watercolor Nature Scavenger Hunt {freebie}

I have spent the last few days trying to plan out an uncertain school year and finishing up all the summer projects I thought I would get to before it is officially over. Organizing our living and school spaces, check. Making calendars and thinking about back to school shopping, check. Vision appointments made (although of course not until after our schedule gets jammed packed with everything school), check. Permit for Shane to start the big garage project finally, check.

Today I poured over Pinterest after running last minute errands, and finally decided I would just have to make my own printable to find the aesthetic and available items from our property to make my vision come to reality.

Behold the Watercolor Nature Scavenger Hunt!

I created the template, then hand painted the images and scanned it all in together. It's fantastic that I was 35 years old when I finally learned how to create and link a PDF document. You're welcome. The scavenger hunt printable is designed to be cut out and fits in an egg carton so all the little bits don't get jumbled around. Also the grasshoppers weren't cooperating so they aren't necessarily sitting in their designated cup!

This is a great activity for grades K-5 to get them outside and moving and also involving team work or problem solving!

Keeping up with the Sadlers

Lincoln favorite new past time, listen closely for "Dada"  Dylan had cowboy day at school and could dress up and meet "real cowboys". We live in a hick town and his school was having an assembly about the cowboy way , or having character. Yes, Lincoln's bib is purplish, but it says I Love my Sister so it's ok :)  Cute big boy outfit Auntie Jackie got Lincoln, while sticking out his tongue. I think it looks like a little pickle. Weird, another tongue shot, he does it a lot. While playing with a plush orange (like the fruit) it sort of landed like this and I thought it looked a little like a bikini top and snapped a pic. Hey you have to have fun with life right?

Overnight Sourdough Cinnamon Rolls

I've been tweaking this overnight sourdough cinnamon roll recipe over the last few months and I think it's finally, exactly, the way I like it. We love this for slow weekend mornings, to take to family and friends, or for special holiday get togethers. It's also the same recipe I use when making them to sell locally. I've been keeping it under wraps for no reason in particular but it's just too good not to share.  I don't have a reliable kitchen scale so this recipe uses good old fashion cups and goes a lot by the feeling of the dough. It will get messy but don't be discouraged if it doesn't turn out just right the first time. No matter the flop, these cinnamon rolls will never disappoint taste wise.  The PDF printable can be found here or you can keep reading.  Overnight Sourdough Cinnamon Rolls  The night before you want to make rolls: 8 Tablespoons cold butter, shredded (a whole stick) 2 1/2 cups unbleached all-purpose or bread flour  1/2 cup sourdou...

What the Happenings

Lincoln tried out Play-Doh for the first time a while ago. He really liked breaking it up into tiny pieces and trying to put it back in the container. And he didn't try to put it in his mouth too many times. As you can tell by the picture he got tired out from all the creativity pretty quickly so we'll try it again when he has a little more vigor for the squishy stuff. I think this picture is from our drive over to Richland a few weeks ago. We headed over there to visit Shane's grandma and the a bbq at his brothers house. The kids love pictures of themselves and Danielle took this picture of the both of them.  Waiting to get Shane's winter tires on the jeep, Lincoln had fun checking out the giant tires at Les Schwab. There was one big enough he could crawl into but he wasn't a fan of being shoved in there. He loves to climb and explore and get himself stuck, but only on his own accord. He does not like authority trying to tell him what to do (gee I wonder where ...
