Marshmallows and Cheerios: Fine Motor Activity

Since it is the holiday season we have a plethora of marshmallows in the house. Sure I buy them for s'mores in the summer but I don't usually have three (3!) different types at one time. There are the big jumbo ones because we are going to make snowmen snacks out of them. We have the mini ones for normal hot chocolate and 3D house building with toothpicks. I also found these cute little ones just because I can't get over how tiny they are. So Lincoln likes to think that marshmallows make good snacks and also like to think that he can just help himself in the kitchen. He got a whole bowl of dry cheerios out for himself yesterday so I got out the toothpicks and mini mallows and let him get to work. This activity helps with fine motor skills while keeping a busy boy entertained. I forget he still has little chubby toddler hands so the pictures turned out extremely adorable in my opinion. I have a strange fixation with pictures of my kids hands being cute (If you remember my photography final two years ago) so I kept taking pictures.

The toothpick was just short enough to stay interesting until it was full.

Oh yum yum

Lincoln wanted to skip the Cheerios after a while and just stick marshmallows on the ends.

And of course take a break and eat some too.
Check out the concentration - tongue sticking out!

What a happy boy. I promise his haircut doesn't look that bad in real life.

Keeping up with the Sadlers

Lincoln favorite new past time, listen closely for "Dada"  Dylan had cowboy day at school and could dress up and meet "real cowboys". We live in a hick town and his school was having an assembly about the cowboy way , or having character. Yes, Lincoln's bib is purplish, but it says I Love my Sister so it's ok :)  Cute big boy outfit Auntie Jackie got Lincoln, while sticking out his tongue. I think it looks like a little pickle. Weird, another tongue shot, he does it a lot. While playing with a plush orange (like the fruit) it sort of landed like this and I thought it looked a little like a bikini top and snapped a pic. Hey you have to have fun with life right?

Overnight Sourdough Cinnamon Rolls

I've been tweaking this overnight sourdough cinnamon roll recipe over the last few months and I think it's finally, exactly, the way I like it. We love this for slow weekend mornings, to take to family and friends, or for special holiday get togethers. It's also the same recipe I use when making them to sell locally. I've been keeping it under wraps for no reason in particular but it's just too good not to share.  I don't have a reliable kitchen scale so this recipe uses good old fashion cups and goes a lot by the feeling of the dough. It will get messy but don't be discouraged if it doesn't turn out just right the first time. No matter the flop, these cinnamon rolls will never disappoint taste wise.  The PDF printable can be found here or you can keep reading.  Overnight Sourdough Cinnamon Rolls  The night before you want to make rolls: 8 Tablespoons cold butter, shredded (a whole stick) 2 1/2 cups unbleached all-purpose or bread flour  1/2 cup sourdou...

What the Happenings

Lincoln tried out Play-Doh for the first time a while ago. He really liked breaking it up into tiny pieces and trying to put it back in the container. And he didn't try to put it in his mouth too many times. As you can tell by the picture he got tired out from all the creativity pretty quickly so we'll try it again when he has a little more vigor for the squishy stuff. I think this picture is from our drive over to Richland a few weeks ago. We headed over there to visit Shane's grandma and the a bbq at his brothers house. The kids love pictures of themselves and Danielle took this picture of the both of them.  Waiting to get Shane's winter tires on the jeep, Lincoln had fun checking out the giant tires at Les Schwab. There was one big enough he could crawl into but he wasn't a fan of being shoved in there. He loves to climb and explore and get himself stuck, but only on his own accord. He does not like authority trying to tell him what to do (gee I wonder where ...
